Massage is perhaps the oldest and simplest of all medical treatments. Essentially it is an extension of something we instinctively do. Stroking our forehead when we have a headache, rubbing painful areas, patting our children to reassure them and so on.
From Hippocrates who wrote ‘The physician must be experienced in many things, but assuredly in rubbing…for rubbing can bind a joint that is too loose, and loosen a joint that is too rigid’ to Avicenna, the eleventh-century Arab philosopher and physician, who noted in his Canon that the object of massage was to ‘disperse the effete matters found in the muscles not expelled by exercise’, to all the different massage techniques currently available in the world, the art of massage is, I believe, as relevant and valuable today as it was then.
Along the years I have studied different techniques from East and West and offer a tailor made combination to suit the needs of each person.
To me Yoga and massage are a marriage made in heaven, one being the prolongation of the other and vice versa.
I use organic oils from Neal’s Yard.
